Content: This workshop will analyze the unique factors, concerns, and needs related to substance use disorders in the older adult population (55+). Substance use disorder statistics for this growing population will be presented. Prescription medications as well as OTC drugs will be discussed. We will compare symptoms of aging, polypharmacy, and addiction. We will discuss alcoholic dementia as well as other alcohol related neurological disorders. Special considerations regarding treatment programs and tips for caregivers will be provided.
