Content: During this workshop we will explore the concept of “diseases of despair” and the three classes of behavior-related medical conditions that fall within this category. Discussed will be high risk categories of patients during the pandemic. We will review local and national data focusing on opioids, alcohol, marijuana and vaping. We will also focus on mental health conditions that include depression, anxiety and trauma. Discussed will be how already escalating symptoms and rising use has been exacerbated during the pandemic. Shared will be a wide variety of resources that present alternative coping strategies as opposed to increased use and escalating mental health conditions.
