Content: This training will build on basic group facilitation skills for practicing clinicians. After a review of counseling theories and the application to group work, we will explore different types of groups and some common dynamics and challenges including distribution of participation, dealing with reticence, and dominating group time, vying for control, conflict, and norms that may develop and block group process. Sometime will be spent in a live group followed by observation and critique of facilitation skills and style, so
participant involvement is strongly encouraged as a mechanism for learning. The sharing of experiences in working with special populations and various settings will be included as well.
