Content: This workshop will provide an overview of brain basics and brain health and how early exposure to SUD changes the brain and predisposes one to SUD. Discussed will be how alcohol and other drugs negatively affect the brain’s structure and function, altering the rewards system and impact the cognitive abilities needed for a successful recovery. Additionally, we will discuss how poor nutrition, sleep disturbances negatively impact SUD and how achievable healthy lifestyle changes boost brain health utilizing stress reduction, body-mind practices, nutritional improvements, physical and cognitive exercise.
