Content: This presentation will explore emerging and evolving substance use trends—including nitrous oxide products, “gas station heroin,” mushroom and cannabis edibles, kratom, and other substances. Discussion will include the regulatory, detection, and safety challenges they pose, with attention to their role in both unintentional and intentional poison exposures.
Using surveillance data and real-world case examples from the Upstate New York Poison Center, participants will learn how means reduction strategies can be applied to reduce access to lethal substances, support individuals at risk for self-harm, and enhance prevention messaging and response efforts within their communities.
