Content: Persons with substance use disorders are more likely than those without to have co-occurring mental health conditions. Serious gaps exist between the service needs and actual care this population receives. Utilized during this training will be SAMHSA’s Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) 42 manual to highlight knowledge and best practices. Participants will learn about prevalence rates, guiding principles for working with persons with co-occurring disorders, screening and assessment, evidence-based practices, special populations and associated considerations as well as strategies for reducing barriers in accessing care. Participants are expected to download/print SAMHSA TIP 42 to use during this training.
