Content: This workshop will focus on identifying the need for and maximizing the usefulness of psychotropic medications in the co-occurring disorders population.  We will discuss the indications for and actions of the major types of psychotropic drugs.  Some clients who are dependent on alcohol or drugs fear obtaining treatment for mental illness; some clients who are in treatment for mental illness have a difficult time making the connection between their substance use and their psychiatric symptoms.  Strategies for engaging these populations in treatment and for motivating them to continue with their treatment will be discussed.
